Formation Internship Team Leader

Lead and accompany a small cohort of university students as they grow through prayer, study, community, and mission. This is a paid, part-time Catholic leadership role with Holy Cross Chaplaincy in Halifax.

Formation through real responsibility

The Holy Cross Chaplaincy Formation Internship is a year-long experience for a small cohort of university students. Interns take on meaningful responsibilities in the life of the chaplaincy while receiving mentorship, practical training, and intentional Catholic formation.

The program belongs to the “Immerse” stage of Holy Cross Chaplaincy’s discipleship pathway: students enter more deeply into the common life of the chaplaincy and begin leading within it. Through hands-on service, the program also helps form future leaders for Catholic parishes and ministries.

Prayer

Interns help lead the Daily Order of Prayer and learn to intercede for the whole chaplaincy community.

Community

A weekly team lunch creates space for friendship, thoughtful conversation, and guided formation.

Study

“Ora et Schola” study blocks, punctuated by prayer, help students sanctify their university studies.

Mission

Hospitality, monthly events, and one-to-one accompaniment turn faith into concrete service and leadership.

Formation and mentorship

Structured accompaniment and practical training in prayer, hospitality, and events.

A named leadership role

Real responsibility that builds the community and develops transferable leadership experience.

Recognition on completion

A reference and certificate that can support employment, graduate school, or ministry applications.

A leader who accompanies, organizes, and serves

The Team Leader is a Holy Cross Chaplaincy staff member, not one of the interns. Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Team Leader provides a dependable connection between the intern cohort and chaplaincy leadership while walking alongside students throughout the year.

Serve as the primary point of contact between HCC leadership and the intern team.

Lead a weekly team check-in and hold regular one-to-one conversations across the cohort.

Coordinate the prayer rotation, hospitality schedule, and event planning.

Share in hospitality shifts alongside the interns.

Help schedule the Daily Order of Prayer and lead one Office.

Support and oversee the monthly events led by the interns.

Report pastoral, practical, or personal concerns to the Program Coordinator.

Intern selection remains the responsibility of the Program and Campus Ministry Coordinators.

Faithful, relational, and dependable

A practicing Catholic committed to the chaplaincy’s Rule of Life.

A recent graduate or young adult who is not a current intern.

Prior involvement in Holy Cross Chaplaincy or comparable formation is an asset.

Organized and able to build schedules, lead a team, and communicate professionally with minimal supervision.

Relational and pastoral, with a desire to accompany students rather than simply manage them.

Able to commit for the full academic year.

Able to complete a satisfactory background check and comply with the Archdiocesan Responsible Ministry Protocol.

The Team Leader is encouraged to participate in the program’s four pillars. Because the paid role centres on leading the team, optional formation participation is unpaid, except for the team lunch and leading one Office in the Daily Order of Prayer, which count toward paid hours.
